Pure Resin PMB101-3 DI Mixed Bed Resin is a ready-mixed ion exchange media for producing deionised and demineralised water. Supplied in a 25 L bag, it combines strong acid cation resin and Type I strong base anion resin in their hydrogen and hydroxide forms to remove dissolved ionic impurities.

Use it in suitable DI cartridges and mixed-bed vessels, or as a polishing stage after reverse osmosis where a lower conductivity is required. The two resin components are supplied pre-blended, making it convenient to refill compatible equipment.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Ready-mixed DI media: 40% cation resin and 60% anion resin by volume.
  • Supplied in H⁺/OH⁻ form: Prepared for deionisation rather than conventional salt-regenerated water softening.
  • Low-conductivity water: The product data sheet states a conductivity of 0.06 µS/cm maximum; achieved water quality depends on feedwater, system design and resin condition.
  • Silica removal: Suitable for deionisation applications requiring efficient silica removal.
  • Flexible use: Suitable for regenerable or non-regenerable DI cartridges and appropriately designed mixed-bed systems.
  • 25 L supply: For refilling cartridges and vessels to their specified resin capacity.

Typical Applications

  • Mixed-bed demineralisation and deionisation systems.
  • Refillable DI cartridges and service exchange vessels.
  • Polishing pre-treated or reverse osmosis water for applications requiring reduced residual dissolved ions.

Alternative to Purolite MB400

PMB101-3 provides an alternative for suitable general-purpose mixed-bed DI applications. Its published formulation uses the same broad resin types, ionic forms and 40:60 cation-to-anion volume ratio as Purolite MB400. Confirm compatibility with your equipment, feedwater and required outlet quality when changing resin grades. Product-specific approvals and performance requirements must be checked separately.

Cation total exchange capacity Minimum 2.0 eq/L, measured in sodium form
Anion total exchange capacity Minimum 1.3 eq/L, measured in chloride form
Water retention H⁺ form: 45–50%; OH⁻ form: 53–60%
Approximate bulk shipping weight 700–740 g/L; approximately 17.5–18.5 kg of resin per 25 L bag
Maximum resin temperature Non-regenerative bed: 100 °C; regenerative bed: 60 °C
Published resin pH range 0–14

Temperature and pH figures describe resin limits. The operating limits of the complete cartridge, housing or vessel may be lower. Component exchange capacities are reference values and do not state the service capacity of the mixed bed.

Installation & Operating Guidance

  • Size the system correctly: Published vessel guidance gives a minimum bed depth of 0.6 m and a service flow of 20–60 bed volumes per hour. These are design guidelines; cartridge ratings and the required water quality must also be considered.
  • Use suitable pre-treatment: Avoid prolonged exposure to strong oxidising agents such as chlorine and hydrogen peroxide.
  • Monitor outlet quality: Use a suitable conductivity meter to determine when the resin requires replacement or specialist regeneration.
  • Allow for professional regeneration: Mixed-bed DI resin requires a dedicated regeneration process; it is not regenerated using ordinary softener salt alone.
  • Check the complete treatment process: Deionisation removes dissolved ions and does not provide disinfection.

What's Included
